Transforming Manufacturing SMEs through Smart Digital Solutions
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) play a vital role in the Mauritian economy, contributing approximately 40% of GDP and employing over 100,000 people. As Mauritius transitions towards higher value-added manufacturing, improving productivity, efficiency, and competitiveness within SMEs has become a national priority.
To address these challenges, the National Productivity and Competitiveness Council (NPCC) has launched the IoT for Productive Enterprises Project; a pilot initiative aimed at demonstrating the practical benefits of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions within the manufacturing sector.
This project will support five (5) selected manufacturing SMEs (Phase 1) in implementing smart, data-driven performance monitoring systems that enable real-time tracking of production, quality, energy consumption, and equipment performance, etc. These solutions will help enterprises transition from reactive management to predictive and data-driven decision-making, in line with Mauritius’ Manufacturing 4.0 and Smart Factory vision.
The project targets:
- Manufacturing SMEs operating in Mauritius
- Enterprises seeking to improve productivity and reduce operational costs
- SMEs committee to embrace digital transformation and Industry 4.0 practices
Only five (5) SMEs will be selected for this pilot phase.
The project will be implemented as from March 2026 through five phases:
Phase 1 – Assessment and Planning
Self assessment of companies
Diagnostic assessments by consultant
Selection of participating enterprises
Phase 2 – Solution Design
Improvement projects identified and customised IoT solution designed
Phase 3 – Installation and Integration
Deployment of IoT solutions in selected companies
Testing and integration with enterprise processes
Phase 4 – Training and Capacity Building
Hands-on technical training on dashboard use and data-driven decision-making
Phase 5 – Monitoring and Evaluation

Documentation of case studies
Dissemination of results and scale-up
