NPCC Launches “IoT for Productive Enterprises” to Accelerate Smart Manufacturing in Mauritius
Réduit, 05 March 2026 – The National Productivity and Competitiveness Council (NPCC) officially launched the IoT for Productive Enterprises Project today, marking a significant milestone in Mauritius’ journey towards smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0 transformation.
The project was kicked off through a high-level workshop on IoT for Productive Enterprises, bringing together representatives of different companies and experts from the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition in South Africa (DTIC), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the United Nations Industrial Development organization (UNIDO) to explore how Internet of Things (IoT) solutions can drive productivity, efficiency and competitiveness.
The IoT for Productive Enterprises Project is a pilot initiative designed to demonstrate the practical benefits of IoT adoption within the manufacturing sector. During its first phase, the project will support five selected manufacturing SMEs in implementing smart, data-driven performance monitoring systems capable of real-time tracking of production output, quality indicators, energy consumption and equipment performance. The initiative aligns with Mauritius’ Manufacturing 4.0 and Smart Factory vision by enabling enterprises to shift from reactive management to predictive and data-driven decision-making.
The project will be implemented from March 2026 through five key phases:
- Assessment and Planning – Company self-assessments, diagnostic evaluations and selection of participating enterprises.
- Solution Design – Identification of improvement projects and development of customised IoT solutions.
- Installation and Integration – Deployment of IoT systems and integration into enterprise processes.
- Training and Capacity Building – Hands-on training on dashboard use and data-driven management.
- Monitoring and Evaluation – Performance measurement, impact analysis, documentation of case studies and preparation for scale-up.
Speaking at the launch, the Executive Director of the NPCC, Dr V. Ancharaz, stated: “The IoT for Productive Enterprises Project represents a decisive step towards modernising our manufacturing SMEs. Productivity today must be data-driven. Through this initiative, we are equipping enterprises with practical tools to improve efficiency, reduce costs and strengthen competitiveness in a rapidly evolving global environment.”
The project is open to manufacturing SMEs registered in Mauritius that are committed to improving operational performance and embracing digital transformation. Interested enterprises are invited to submit their Expression of Interest (EOI) by completing the official registration form.
